Big Apple Diner – Business Bites on the Kitsap Peninsula
January 26th, 2007 by Rich Jacobson
One step through the front door transports you back to a simpler time. The Big Apple Diner is a fun 50′s style diner, just off the beaten path and across from Kitsap Lake in Bremerton (The owners, Mark & Patty Nesby, also operate the adjoining Red Apple Market).
Follow the colored checkered floor to your padded booth, or spin around on the turnstile seating at the soda fountain counter. The interior is decorated as the old-fashioned diners were. From the pictures on the walls to the light fixtures overhead, everything is reminicent of yesteryear’s eateries.
The menu is huge and so are the portions. Enjoy their tasty burgers, fries, and delicious thick shakes, while the Jukebox plays your favorite oldies.
“Good Eats, huh Buckwheat?”
Their Breakfast faire is especially popular with the locals. You’ll want to allow yourself additional wait time on the weekends. But trust me, it’s worth every minute!
The prices are very reasonable ($7-$12 for any huge dinner), so bring the entire tribe!

We went out to the Big Apple diner this morning for breakfast. It was super packed but we didn’t mind at all.. but what we did think was pretty rude though, was the fact that we’d already been on the waiting list to get seated for about 15 minutes when the hostess’s friends came in and instantly got head of the line privileges and were seated, while the rest of us ‘regular’ people had to keep waiting another 15 minutes before another table opened up for us. The couple waiting before us had the same amount of people as “the hostess’s friends” so we know that they didn’t get head of the line because they had less people or anything like that! And it was pretty clear by what they were saying when they came in the door, that they didn’t have prior reservations either! We just thought that it wasn’t right to treat their customers like that, and it was extremely rude and unfair to everyone. And unfortunately we’re definitely NOT coming back again

Buckwheat knows his way around tech tools AND omelettes! You blog on the Wind Tunnel was great! I love learning about your market up there!
Great blog with local flavor. I LIKES it.
I also like the photo of the meal just before digging in. The lighbox effect for the photo is neat, I just learned that from Jason at Real Estate Tomato.
Ines, the food really is great! I had the corned beef hash, made from scratch. YUM! I loved your carnival post. Very festive! What a great way to support the local parish.
Is that an omelet ?- looks delicious! Thanks for reminding me… I just wrote about our local Carnival. I always like your local content stuff – you guys are getting good at doing it together….that’s pretty scary.
Linda, you are on! I grew up on the East Coast. We can’t get lobster out here that tastes like it does there.
From your friend from the Submarine Capitol of the World or at least on the other coast:
Great looking blog! Ya gotta love diners. I bet someone could write a best selling book called “Diners across America”. On second thought, there probably already is such a book.
P.S. I’ll trade you a couple of lobsters for a couple of crabs!
Ah Ha! A vote for the Blog Frog! I like the frog too. I just don’t want the same thing on every page so I am designing other headers. This is just a test.
Hey, Buckwheat! Thanks for cleaning up my mess! AGAIN! I keep forgetting to resize my photos before I download them here.
MF – if you ever DO come out, I’ll take you out on the Canal, and we’ll pull up a few and boil ‘em up fresh!
The Diner is a great place to eat, but the only problem is when you’re sitting across from what’s his name, you kinda lose your appetite!
Ahhh, those high res digital cameras. I love mine, but resizing all the pics just ain’t no fun. Bring the frog back or I will start a protest.
Thanks Maureen, I just fixed them all. There were 4 photos that were 3 meg each. Yikes
Buckwheat and Sparky, the photos are loading like molasses in michigan in January on this post. Feel free to delete my comment. Are those pics resized for the web??
I want a good crab dinner when I come to visit though the diner looks like a place I would be hanging out too.
